Invisalign is a form of Invisible Braces. Consider Invisalign to get the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted — without braces. A consultation with Dr. Gautam can determine if Invisalign is right for you. Not sure what orthodontic treatment is right for you? We suggest reading Invisalign vs. Braces.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign Invisible Braces uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to treat with Invisalign.
The aligners are individually created and specifically designed to gradually shift your teeth in the correct position.
Why would I want Invisalign?
Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
How does Invisalign work?
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Gautam has prescribed. You’ll visit Dr. Gautam about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
We know that you likely have a lot of questions about Invisalign and aligners. Here’s some of the most common Invisalign questions we receive and an answer to each question.
If I wear aligners, will it affect my speech?
Invisalign is just like any other orthodontic treatment, you will likely find that your voice sounds different. No need to worry though, it just takes a little time to get use to the aligner. Soon after, you’ll notice your voice will nearly back to normal as you become more comfortable with the changes.
How long do I need to wear my aligner?
To get the maximum benefit of the aligner, you need to make sure you’re wearing it at least 22 hours a day. Remember, the whole purpose of Invisalign is to shift your teeth in the correct position. For this to take place, you must wear your aligner for long durations at a time. You may take them out while drinking, eating or brushing your teeth.
Is Invisalign treatment painful?
Invisalign treatment is not painful. No where near the type of pain that a bad tooth would cause. However, you’ll likely feel discomfort and a little pressure because the aligners are moving your teeth into correct position. The good news, this discomfort is short lived. You’ll be a little sore the first few days but even this will completely go away after a short adjustment period.
How do you keep aligners clean?
The best way to keep your aligners clean are by brushing them. We recommend brushing them as you do with your teeth.
How often will I be required to see the Orthodontist during treatment?
This can vary depending on your treatment. Most orthodontic visits will be scheduled every 4-6 weeks. We recommend keeping this schedule so we can make sure the treatment is working for you.
